Pagoda Red
A world-class collection of unusual 18th-19th century Chinese furniture and artifacts as well as Chinese contemporary art by emerging artists. See also our suburban listing for our Winnetka location. Continued from shows listed below november 6th: Pagoda Red hosts Hutton Wilkinson. Hutton was the protégé of Tony Duquette, a designer whose lavish, whimsically baroque sets and costumes, interiors and jewelry made him a Hollywood favorite for more than five decades. The two worked side by side on some of the most exotic and elaborate interiors all over the world. Hutton has upheld the Duquette legacy with a furniture line at Baker, a line of lighting sold at Remains, and a jewelry line sold exclusively through Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. Cocktails will be served while Hutton signs copies of his second book, More is More: Tony Duquette. Opening Nov. 6, 5-8 pm
november 20th: Gillian Carrera Trunk Show: Gillian, a Chicago Metalsmith and professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will showcase a new line of jewelry, sold exclusively at Pagoda Red, incorporating Pagoda Red's unique antique objects and artifacts. Carrara's work is an ongoing exploration of sculptural design applied to functional and beautiful objects. She is fascinated by concentricity and the resonance of shape, texture, raw materials and mass. Yet as her careful handwork reveals new kinds of beauty from the materials she uses, it is the simplicity of a line and the burnishing of a patina that refine the jewelry and functional tools Carrara creates. Wine will be served. Opening from 5-8 p.m. |
