Qigong & Painting: The Art of Creative Expression

Saturday, Aug 3, 2019 1:30 – 4 pm

This workshop is for teens on up. All levels of experience are welcome. Those who have never considered themselves “artists”, or “creative”, or who “can’t” meditate are especially encouraged to attend!

What: Come explore and enhance your creativity with us as we practice simple mindful movements, guided meditation, and free form painting with acrylic paint. Join Janis and Marsha for an afternoon designed to relax, lighten up, and rediscover the joy of playfulness and spontaneity. We’ll consider the energy within us that sparks the urge to express ourselves through color and visual metaphor. Before picking up our paint brushes, we’ll center ourselves and clear our internal “canvases” through an easy energizing qigong practice. We’ll enjoy the satisfaction of using paint expressively without the pressure of any particular outcome in mind. This afternoon is about the process of looking inward, feeling motivation from your center, and then enjoying working with paint. Delight in the colors, textures, shapes and serendipitous surprises that arise when you explore freely. Without the predetermined goal of making “art”, we’ll see what unfolds.

We’ll alternate between inspirational mind/body movement, brief meditation, painting demonstrations and painting on your own. You’ll have a couple of canvases to take home, as well as some easy techniques for self-centering and self-motivating. Our goal is for you to leave feeling good - free and ready to continue to explore.

When: Offered on three different days – each day will be different, so take one, two, or all three!
