Founded in 2019, FLXST Contemporary is a new contemporary fine arts and photography gallery and an arts incubator. It features and represents highly-evocative and collectible artwork by emerging and mid career artists and fosters the creation and exhibition of new artwork across artistic mediums. FLXST Contemporary works with, collaborates, and represents chiefly artists of color, diasporic im/immigrant artists, and LGBTQ-identified artists. FLXST puts artists first — their vision, energy, and conceptual power. The artwork showcased at the gallery engages viewers to think, act, and, we hope, to collect the work by the talented artists represented. FLXST believes that collecting artwork by emerging and mid career artists represented by the gallery supports and nourishes the creativity and artistic production of many artists whose voices would otherwise be muted or silenced by the myriad processes and constructed protocols of the economics of the art world. FLXST stands as an important and ethical frame for artists, collectors, curators, and institutions alike. FLXST Contemporary is a creative space that amplifies the voices and visions of historically underrepresented artists. The gallery space is divided into two distinct areas called the “A-Side” and “B-Side.”
FLXST Contemporary pays respect to the vibrant cultural and historical community the surrounds the gallery in the Near South Side neighborhood and has integrated programming and collaborations with nonprofits, local artists, and the city of Chicago that will continue to foster community engagement in its neighborhood and beyond.
