DOCUMENT's Sibylle Friche Says Goodbye

In a message to friends and colleagues recently, Sibylle Friche said,

"After 11 extraordinary years at DOCUMENT, I am writing to share that I have decided to leave my position at the gallery. My last day will be July 2nd.

I am incredibly grateful to the team at the gallery and the print studio, and to everyone I have had the pleasure of working with—including the artists, curators, collectors, writers, studio assistants, photographers, art advisors, gallerists, shippers, art handlers, fair and museum directors who make up the artistic community I cherish in Chicago and beyond."

Aron Gent remains director of DOCUMENT, which has locations in Chicago and Lisbon, Portugal.

Yi Cao Leaves Society for Contemporary Art After Three Years

SCA President Larry Antonatos shared,

"After three terrific seasons furthering the mission of the Society for Contemporary Art, Yi Cao has decided to resign from her position as Director of the SCA.

During her tenure, Yi presented dozens of SCA public programs and member events, three Annual Meetings and Acquisition Votes, and two Benefits, all with dedication and grace. She expanded programming, grew membership, strengthened relationships within the museum, and streamlined operational systems. Yi has much to be proud of. I am grateful for her contributions to the SCA.

The SCA Board has begun our search for a new Director. We welcome your support in identifying qualified and passionate candidates and will share a job description with you soon.

Sabina Eastman will continue as SCA Manager. Sabina will be increasing her efforts and responsibilities in the interim before a new Director is named. Sabina has experience with memberships, communications, and managing public programs and member events. We are in good hands with Sabina and are grateful for her skilled support."

Raclin Murphy Museum of Art receives a $5 million grant

The Raclin Murphy Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame has received a $5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to support capacity-building projects and programs.

The grant is one of 12 invitational grants that Lilly Endowment is making to help Indiana art museums strengthen and enhance their ability to contribute to cultural vibrancy in their communities and regions.

“This insightful and inspirational grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. provides exceptional opportunities for the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art to fulfill its potential on many fronts for the benefit of the communities we serve, from campus to the region and beyond,” shares Director Joseph Antenucci Becherer, Ph.D. “From providing multiple scholarly research opportunities, to enhanced visitor and membership experiences, to increased accessibility and awareness of the collections and exhibitions with which we  have been entrusted, this grant provides extraordinary opportunities we would otherwise not be able to realize.”
