The sixth edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial, SHIFT: Architecture in Times of Radical Change, wrapped up earlier this year and marked a significant evolution for the international exhibition—extending beyond traditional venues into public spaces across Chicago and broadening access to architecture, design, and civic dialogue.
Organizers report millions of engagement opportunities citywide, underscoring the Biennial’s growing reach and impact. A forthcoming catalogue, set for release this summer, will document the full scope of installations, programs, and global perspectives that shaped this milestone edition.
While the Biennial has concluded, its influence continues through reinstalled works, ongoing conversations, and new initiatives still to come.
By the numbers:
The Biennial brought together 100+ artists and designers from 30+ countries, with 80+ installations presented in partnership with 86 organizations. Additional programming included 30+ partner exhibitions and 90+ public programs across Chicago. Digital engagement reached 7,700+ Bloomberg Connects users and 12,000+ onsite QR scans.
A catalogue documenting the full scope of SHIFT will be released this summer.
