The Design Museum of Chicago has announced the appointment of David Salkin as its new Executive Director, ushering in a new chapter for the institution as it continues its mission to connect communities through design and foster greater appreciation for the creative forces shaping everyday life.

Salkin brings a deep commitment to Chicago’s creative community and a passion for advancing the visibility and impact of design across the city and beyond.

“I’m so eager to help better understand, promote, and foster Chicago’s diverse and varied design talents and ecosystems,” said Salkin. “I’m especially grateful to be able to work with my new colleagues, board members, interns, volunteers, collaborators, and supporters to help people see the creativity, intention, and possibility embedded in the world around them.”

Salkin also recognized the contributions of founding Executive Director Tanner Woodford, whose leadership established the museum as a vital platform for design education, civic engagement, and creative dialogue.

“Thank you, Tanner Woodford, for building something so special,” Salkin said. “I’m honored to lead the Design Museum of Chicago in its next direction.”

As he begins his tenure, Salkin welcomes engagement from Chicago’s design community and beyond.

The Design Museum of Chicago is dedicated to making design accessible to all through exhibitions, programs, and public initiatives that demonstrate how design shapes culture, communities, and daily life.
