Virtual Artist Talk: Thursday, July 9th at 7pm
Artist Reception and Awards: Saturday, July 11th from 5-7pm
Join Us in July for Vicinity 2026: What's Going On?"; a juried exhibit of photographic artists from our region. Registration is available for the Virtual Artist's Talk here. Our juror Jan Tichy had this to say about the exhibition: "Borrowing its title from Marvin Gaye’s enduring question and call for compassion, What’s Going On approaches photography as a form of witness. Questions of identity, labor, race, migration, ecology, intimacy, violence, memory, and belonging unfold through an overwhelming presence of portraiture. Yet these are not portraits seeking resolution or certainty. Instead, they register states of tension: vulnerability and performance, exhaustion and resilience, isolation and collective presence."
Jan Tichy, is a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the departments of Photography and Art & Technology/Sound Practices. Besides being an educator and curator, Tichy is a contemporary artist working at the intersection of video, sculpture, architecture and photography.
