Perspective Gallery Perspective Gallery’s December offering features two fine art photographers who approach the world from radically different viewpoints.

Steve Geer presents Accidentally Abstract, a group of 12 abstract images that use shapes, colors and textures to produce a response and provoke the imagination. The series invites an exploration of our reactions to abstract art. Why does one abstract image appeal to us and another does not, and what exactly is our response to the abstract images that we find interesting?

Frank Monnelly presents The Abstract Landscape. Willem de Kooning, the abstract expressionist, feels that ‘even abstract shapes must have a likeness’. Abstract art leaves out the mundane: people, houses, trees. Instead, it dwells on color, shape, size and line. This elevates the artist’s ability to share a mood, energy or inner thought. This exhibition explores the abstracts of reality, looking deeply at the intimate details of grand landscapes spanning from America’s Desert Southwest to the vast mountain scapes of Alaska’s Last Frontier. Though these photographs were made within the context of ‘grand landscapes’, the focus is narrowed to shape, color, texture, and pattern, reinforcing the notion that there is more to these environments than what initially meets the eye; it simultaneously feeds his creative ideology of trying to find the extraordinary in the ordinary.
