Tucked into a single block on the North Side of Chicago is a unique neighborhood: Alta Vista Terrace. It consists of a series of row houses—not common for Chicago—built at the beginning of the 20th century. Explore why they exist at this location and what makes them architecturally interesting.

Kent Foutty has been a docent since 2009 and gives eight different tours, including the Chicago Architecture Foundation Center River Cruise aboard Chicago’s First Lady. In addition to giving tours, he is currently president of the CAC’s Docent Council, the governing body for CAC docent volunteers. He is a professor of accounting at Loyola University Chicago and lives on the North Side of Chicago.
