Art Shay: Writers and Freedom Fighters

When one looks at the work of photographer Art Shay, it almost seems that he was everywhere at once.  He photographed the famous, the infamous and the nameless with the unerring eye of a photojournalist and  and the humor of a good story teller.  The most powerful images capture the era of protest— the civil rights  activists and the writers who demanded change.  These photographs are not merely a time capsule but also a mirror reflecting the struggles that continue today.
