Curated by artist Nicole Mauser, Tiger Strikes Asteroid’s fall 2021 exhibition Both And features abstractions by Chicago-based painter Miyoko Ito (1918-1983) alongside contemporary works by Alex Chitty, Julia Fish, Avery Z. Nelson, and Brittney Leeanne Williams. Curator Jordan Stein shares a look into Ito’s life and work followed by a conversation between Mauser and the exhibited artists about how abstraction and representation inform one another in their work.
