Currently on display at Perspective Gallery is ar•ti•facts, an exhibition featuring new work by gallery members Jeffrie Chirchirillo and Jane Feely. While each artist focuses on their own specific subject matter, both are able to highlight the beauty and meaning in often overlooked, sometimes intimate, scenes.
Chirchirillo presents Light Filtering Through Leaves, images capturing the annual light show when the roof of his greenhouse collects fallen leaves and becomes a giant light box. "Initially the hackberry leaves are as bright as a school bus and slowly turn to the color of crusty bread," he writes. "The grapevine leaves are more dynamic. They start out as dark green. Some transform to bright oranges and yellows, others become copper or rust colored. Ultimately they become brown."
In Imprints of the Past, Feely captures Tenby, the small Welsh fishing town where her family has lived for centuries. By exploring still-visible artifacts of the past she reaches out to touch the imprints of her ancestors, acknowledging those from whom she descends. "This is a place of memories and of whispers of the past, a place of continuity and connection where family heirlooms and mementoes reside," she writes. "This work allows me to reflect on identity and belonging and to recognize where self dwells."
The exhibition runs through Sunday, August 30, 2026. A virtual artists' talkwill take place on Thursday, August 20 at 7pm. This Zoom event is free to join but preregistration is required. Please sign up for the talk here.
