Chicago Stories: Unpacking Segregation in Chicago, Then and Now

Join the MoCP for a panel discussion exploring the segregated history of Chicago neighborhoods, in conjunction with the current exhibition Chicago Stories: Recent works by Carlos Javier Ortiz and David Schalliol. The discussion will be moderated by Kristin Taylor, MoCP curator of academic programs and collections. Panelists include Natalie Moore, WBEZ South Side reporter and author of The South Side: A Portrait of Chicago and American Segregation, exhibiting artists Carlos Javier Ortiz and David Schalliol; artist Tonika Johnson, whose project Folded Map encourages interactive exploration of Chicago’s racial and geographic divisions; Lucy Baird, archivist and historian at Baird & Warner, one of Chicago’s largest real estate companies whose founder long advocated for fair housing; and Deborah Payne, a community activist in Englewood and the protagonist in David Schalliol’s film, The Area, which is currently on view at the museum.
