Cyanotype & Digital Color with Emma Powell

Saturday, Sep 21, 2019 9:30 am – 4 pm

This full-day alternative process workshop will explore creative ways to combine the historic hand-applied cyanotype emulsion, often known as blueprint, with contemporary digital color prints. This technique layers color and/or texture with what is traditionally a single-color process. Emma Powell will go through the steps of editing digital files in Photoshop explaining how to prepare files and control the results. Participants will also learn how to coat and process cyanotype prints in order to merge these two techniques. This hands-on, hybrid process utilizes modern technologies, while also examining historic photographic processes.

This workshop is limited to 12 participants.

Emma Powell is an Assistant Professor of Art at Colorado College, where she teaches all levels of photography including alternative processes. Powell has exhibited widely and teaches workshops at Penland School of Crafts. Powell has an MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology. In her photographic work, Powell uses alternative processes to illustrate fantasy narratives.
