Dispossessions in the Americas

Apr 17, 2026 - May 31, 2026
659 W. Wrightwood, Chicago, IL 60614

Dispossessions in the Americas: The Extraction of Bodies, Land, and Heritage from La Conquista to the Present brings together over 40 works by 36 contemporary artists from across Latin America. The exhibition confronts the enduring structures of dispossession in the Americas from colonization to the present day. Featured artists challenge histories of extraction and violence while reclaiming narratives of land, body, and cultural memory. Curated by Jonathan D. Katz, Associate Professor of Practice, History of Art and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies, University of Pennsylvania, and Eduardo Carrera, this exhibition is presented by Alphawood Exhibitions.
