Welcome to CPC's new Covid-distraction and Visual art series: FLATFILE FRIDAY!

March 27th's featured artist: Kouki Tsuritani

Each week, CPC's very own Flat Phil will take you snooping through the drawers and other hidden places to discover gorgeous work by gallery artists that you can buy (Phil would really like for you to support artists right now, many of whom are struggling to pay the rent). We will feature one or two printmakers each week.

Since Flat Phil has an amazing ability to explore very narrow spaces where prints may be hiding, he just discovered our giant stash of Japanese artist Kouki Tsuritani's work. We started showing Kouki's prints about 4 years ago, and his lush mezzotints and engravings have our gallery visitors and printmakers enamored.

Journey of the Rabbit Entertainer, Mezzotint, 8 x 8 inches (image size), $320

Born in Tokyo in 1967, and trained in painting and printmaking at the Kanazawa College of Art (Japan), Kouki Tsuritani's work combines the philosophy of traditional Japanese art (such as Ukiyoe, which means "Floating world") with traditional European printmaking.

Paper Castle, wood engraving, 6 x 6 inches (image size), $200

"I like the rich harmony of black and white monochrome and think it the most

sympathetic for expressing the depths of

our emotions and for reflecting the inner

views of people who live in a "floating"

modern world. I hope that viewers of my

works find them intriguing and are provoked to feel something of their lost memories."

Autumn Sky, mezzotint, 6 x 8 inches (image size), $270

Escape, wood engraving, 4 x 4 inches (image), $150
Loop, wood engraving, 4 x 4 inches (image), $150

Derby, mezzotint, 8 x 8 inches (image), 12.5 x 13 inches (paper), $320

Kouki Tsuritani has exhibited his beautifully-crafted work extensively throughout Japanand internationally. The CPC is honored to represent him in Chicago.

A Balloon, mezzotint, 5.5 x 5.5 inches (image), $270

Labyrinth II, mezzotint, 8 x 8 inches (image), $320

If you would like to purchase one of these wonderful prints, please email the studio and we will arrange payment and shipping (add $25 for domestic). The CPC accepts credit card, cash, check or PayPal. We can also hold purchased prints for convenient curbside pickup.

Stay tuned for next week's FLATFILE FRIDAY, when Flat Phil slides his skinny self into a print drawer full of birds and animals and we ogle the fine work of MIRKA HOKKANEN. We sure hope you're enjoying this as much as we are!

This photo was given to the CPC by John Yaworksy about 30 years ago. I'm pretty sure he took it.
