Desmond Egan, distinguished Irish poet, will read from his own poetry as well as speak on “Modern Irish Poetry.” 

An eloquent and enchanting reader, Desmond Egan will include the works of Yeats, Beckett, Heaney, and Hopkins, among others.  Egan founded the Gerard Manley Hopkins International Festival held every summer in Newbridge, County Kildare and is its current Artistic Director.  The Festival has become a great resource for Hopkins’ scholars and lovers of Hopkins’ poetry. 

Desmond Egan is author of twenty-four collections of poetry, three of prose, and two translations of Greek plays.  Books of his poetry have been published in twelve languages, and his Millennium poem, “Peace,” in thirty-five languages.
