John David Mooney: The Irish Portfolio

We are thrilled to announce John David Mooney’s newly installed exhibition, The Irish Portfolio.  The forty unique paintings in this grouping are unlike anything Mooney has created before. They are a breakthrough in the use of the watercolor medium. This series of paintings focus on the edge of Ireland, posing the question does the sea define the land or does the land define the sea: Mooney’s masterful handling of the medium has evoked a light-filled landscape in which light emanates from the very depth of these paintings.  Known for his large-scale monumental light sculptures, Mooney brings to these paintings the intimate poetry of light. These works were painted on location, outdoors in County Cork, Ireland on large-scale handmade paper, specifically created for the artist by Twin Rocker Press.
