Thursday, June 16, 5:30–7:30 p.m. ET

Spend a summer evening grooving to jazz in the Mary Loretto & Terrence J. Dillon Courtyard. Bring your own blanket or lawn chair and settle in for some great music. A cash bar will be available.

Saxophonist Matthew Muñeses presents music from his new project "Noli Me Tángere," named after and inspired by the 1887 novel by Filipino polymath and revolutionary José Rizal. Noli Me Tángere (“Touch me not” in Latin) is also the title of Rizal’s 1887 revolutionary novel detailing political corruption in the Philippines. This music touches on themes from Rizal’s novel—oppression and injustice, hope and faith—and aspects of Filipino culture such as bayanihan, the concept of communal living, and working as a community/country towards betterment and the greater good. Muñeses will be joined by Zubin Edalji (trumpet), Stu Mindeman (piano), Clark Sommers (bass), and Dana Hall (drums).

Series curated by Stephen and Mary Merriman of Merrimans’ Playhouse.

Should this performance be brought inside due to inclement weather, the performers ask that attendees wear a mask during the indoor concert.
