The present exhibition of Carol Pylant’s paintings is given by her the title, “Equipoise.” The word means an equal distribution, of weight (as in the old-fashioned use of scales), composure (as in serenity or a dispassionate attitude), and equilibrium (as in a “balancing act”). In all its aspects, the title speaks both of the artist and to her art. –Buzz Spector [from catalog preface]
