Open studio of visual artist, Mays Mayhew, will be Dec. 1st, Saturday, from 5 to 9 pm, located at 2525 Coach & Surrey Ln, Aurora, IL. Mayhew will give a talk about her art practice at 7pm. Live music will be provided by The Red Piano and friends. The event is free and open to the public. Street parking available.
The art in her studio is from 10 years of painting and drawing. Guests will be able to view over 100 works from sketchbooks, paintings to pencil drawings. In addition, time lapse videos will show how the art is created. The huge body of work on display provides a comprehensive look from past topics of love to the present subject of doppelganger children.
Mayhew commented on her doppelgangers, “Sometimes the girls portray a doppelganger as the same person pondering choice, others a twin. I’m attracted to the visual rhythm the repeated figure creates”. Previously an oil painter, she now primarily draws with pencil. She stated, “I use the grayscale of graphite to keep the image open-ended for the viewer to mirror, creating a new tangible doppelganger. Ultimately, my goal is to create provocative images about familiar emotions, beautifully and simply.”
Having kids of her own, the open studio is a kid-friendly event. For more information regarding the artist contact Mays Mayhew at Mays@MaysMayhew.com or visit www.MaysMayhew.com. Art studio located at 2525 Coach & Surrey Ln, Aurora, IL. (40 miles west of downtown Chicago).
