The Path to Nowhere Errol Ortiz and Stanley Dean Edwards

Oliva Gallery presents The Path to Nowhere, a two-person exhibition featuring Errol Ortiz and Stanley Dean Edwards. Bringing together two distinct Chicago-connected artists, the exhibition places Ortiz’s charged, symbol-rich Imagist language in direct conversation with Edwards’s disciplined geometric abstraction. Ortiz’s work moves through current events, social tension, pattern, humor, and unease, while Edwards builds pressure through structure, color, and precise compositional restraint. Together, their work creates a space of visual suspension, where images scatter, forms lock into place, and two very different artistic logics meet in unexpected cohesion.

The opening reception will also include a screening of a short documentary on Errol Ortiz by On The Real Film in collaboration with Pentimenti Productions. The film premieres at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago on May 26 as part of a series on Chicago artists, with the June 12 reception offering a more intimate opportunity to view the film and meet the artist.
