PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK CLUB

Filter Photo welcomes photobook enthusiasts in a casual monthly gathering with host Julie Weber that will explore the photographic book form through historical and contemporary examples. Each session will present at least three books for discussion and participants are invited to bring in additional books to consider with the group. Books will be examined for a synergy of both form and content, historical relevance, production qualities, and cultural impact.

The photographic book as a vehicle for sharing images ostensibly began with Anna Atkins Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions in 1843 with only three copies produced. Today we enjoy an immense selection of art books that feature a sweeping range of photographic art. The book form is iconic on coffee tables and in collections as a representation of taste and intelligence.  Enjoy a lively conversation each month with fellow photobook lovers.

This program is free but RSVP is preferred.

Refreshments will be served.
This program is partially supported by The Illinois Arts Council Agency.
