POST-INDEPENDENT is a collection of collectivist approaches to video game production. Instead of similarities in aesthetics, genres, or playstyles, this exhibition identifies games and game makers through experiments in co-operative structures, resource sharing, and other organizational models outside of AAA and indie studios. In an attempt to propose what may come after the indie game moment in game history, POST-INDEPENDENT focuses on video game communities who are finding ways to produce new knowledge in their discipline while also developing new strategies for survival in a growing, yet unstable, field. Additionally, by looking through the lens of collective production strategies, the exhibition opens up a space for comparison between emerging video game communities and collectivist experiments in other art movements and disciplines throughout the course of the 20th and 21st centuries.
