Rick Pas: Take Flight

The screeching Kestrels, comical ducks and majestic eagles included in this show are painted portrait style, with life-like detail to emphasize the anthropomorphic qualities that birds possess.  In fact, Rick had military portraiture in mind when he began this series of paintings.  This makes them the perfect pairing for our continuing show, The Great Battlefield, featuring William Blake’s military reenactment-based paintings.
 
Rick Pas paints birds with such exactitude that they might just take flight right out of their frames. Simultaneously, minute details draw the viewer in for close examination. You’ll be tempted to reach out and touch the feathers to check if they’re real…but please don’t.
