Sarah Krepp: Tatting Tearing

Sarah Krepp is an award-winning mixed media artist whose new exhibit "Tatting Tearing" involves retread tires and other rubber forms that conjure questions of danger to individuals, as well as the environment.

This dynamic exhibit will be in the Visual Arts Gallery from March 4 through April 18, 2020.

This is Krepp's first solo exhibition of her own work at Governors State, though she did curate a 2014 show "Insight/Inner-Sight" that ran as a partner exhibit with the "Miracle Worker" on stage at the Center for Performing Arts, said Jeff Stevenson, Director and Curator of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park and the Visual Arts Gallery.

A Chicago area artist, Krepp created a practice group, Dialogue Chicago, that reflects Governors State's mission and core values. "Her community group models the values of the art program at GSU, including life-long learning, community, and collaboration. We are delighted to host her and her group,'' he said.

“IN DIALOGUE” is installed in the Big Walls Gallery in the E/F Corridor and reflects the exciting range of artists and artwork created by the group.

"The idea behind this exhibition ... is to involve the viewer in a unique way. By the curator juxtaposing artworks on the wall, the viewer is challenged to find the relationship (or dialogue) from one art work to another-sometimes in simple or sometimes more complex ways,'' said Krepp who will be talking with students during a March 4 artist reception.

A combined reception for both exhibitions will bring close to 40 professional artists to campus on March 4 from 3 to 5 p.m.; IN DIALOGUE is on display now through March 12 in the Big Walls Gallery in the E/F Corridor; Tatting Tearing will be in the Visual Arts Gallery March 4 through April 18.
