Summer Visions: Carl Hammer Gallery

Wednesday, Jul 27, 2022 1 – 2:30 pm

927 Noyes St. Studio 222, Evanston, IL 60201

Meet at Carl Hammer Gallery, 740 N Wells St., Chicago

What is the difference between “outsider” art and other art? What attracted famous artists such as Jean Dubuffet to emulate works by untrained artists and what drew gallerist Carl Hammer to these works? We will be talking with Carl about how he became involved in promoting “outsider” artists and curating exhibits that combine their works with those of very sophisticated trained artists. After discussing some pieces in the gallery, we will view other works in Carl’s private living space above his River North gallery.
