Ready! Set! Draw!
In celebration of the international Big Draw Festival, the Snite Museum will be holding our first ever Monster Drawing Rally.
The Big Draw Festival is the world’s largest celebration of drawing and it takes place across the globe every year during the month of October. It is for anyone who loves to draw, as well as those who think they can’t. The festival promotes drawing as a universal language that has the power to change lives and unite people of any age, background, race, or religion from around the globe.
What exactly IS a Monster Drawing Rally?
A Monster Drawing Rally an exciting, family-friendly live drawing event and party that allows people to spy on the creative process, build relationships with local artists, and grow their own art collections. Our Monster Drawing Rally also helps support Nuner Fine Arts Academy, a South Bend fine arts magnet school.
Monster Drawing Rallies (“monster” as in “a big event” not as in drawings of monsters…although artist are more than welcome to make monsters if they want to) were initially conceived in San Francisco by Southern Exposure, an artist-centered non-profit organization committed to supporting visual artists. Over the course of the night, artists take shifts drawing and making artwork for 60 minutes. Sketches turn into finished pieces made from collage, watercolor, acrylic, graphite, and other media. As artworks are finished they are immediately made available to the audience for “purchase.”
Artworks will be available for “purchase” using a token system. You receive a token for every $15 donation you make (i.e. $15=1 token, $30=2 tokens, $45=3 tokens, etc.). Cash only, please. Each artwork will cost one token. If multiple people want the same work of art, they will draw straws to see who gets to “buy” it. All of the money collected will go to Nuner Fine Arts Academy to support creativity in the classroom.
Making a donation to "purchase" a work of art is not required in order to attend. There will also be drawing activities, music, food, and a cash bar to enjoy.
A Monster Drawing Rally offers a rare and exciting opportunity for the public to watch artists in action and then have a chance to take home a completed work of art!
At the Snite Museum of Art’s Monster Drawing Rally, 24 artists will create artwork right before your eyes!
