(un)disclosed is an exhibition of select Fall 2020 Journal Series weavings. These weavings are an alternative to handwritten journals that document Bibbs’ day-to-day life through the intuitive use of color, textures, and material.

(un)disclosed with Bryana Bibbs, Journal Series weavings, on Exhibit at 1100 Florence Gallery, September 1 - 19.

Join us for the Opening Reception, September 10, 6 - 8pm.

Meet Bryana and learn about her techniques of hand-carding, hand-spinning at a Weaving Workshop, September 18, 2 - 4pm.

Bio: Bryana Bibbs (b. 1991) is a Chicago-based textile artist, painter, and art educator who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Fiber and Material Studies at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work comes from her struggles with depression, anxiety, relationships, self-validation, and how to deal with everyday occurrences. She is the founder of The We Were Never Alone Project - A Weaving Workshop for Victims and Survivors of Domestic Violence, a 2021 - 2022 Chicago Artist Coalition HATCH Residency Artist, and serves on the Surface Design Association’s Education Committee. Bryana’s work has been on view in Brooklyn, New York, Chicago, Illinois, and Evanston, Illinois.

Statement: My art practice is about struggles with mental health, acceptance, relationships, and other daily experiences. I tell these stories using an intuitive process that uses color, material (traditional and non-traditional), texture, and mark-making. Telling stories about trauma and mental health aren't always the easiest to do based on the stigmas in our society, but being able to use the repetitious techniques of hand-carding, hand-spinning, and weaving as a form of cathartic release has allowed me to share these stories with viewers.
