Water(color) for the Soul: Sounds of the Prairie Performance Friday
Friday, May 1 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am |
Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods | Free
Join us for the culminating performance of Water(color) for the Soul: Sounds of the Prairie. This event celebrates a powerful season of creativity, collaboration, and storytelling through music. In this final presentation, Black Moon Trio brings to life a collection of original graphic scores created by Veteran composers during a series of immersive workshops inspired by the landscapes and histories of the prairie.
Graphic scores, visual representations of sound that invite interpretation and imagination, offer these composers a unique medium to express personal narratives, memories, and connections to place. Throughout the workshop process, participants explored the intersection of art, environment, and sound, translating their experiences into vibrant visual compositions.
This project has been enriched through interdisciplinary collaboration with poet and creativity expert Kathryn Haydon and botanical artist Heeyoung Kim, alongside members of her Botanical Art Academy. Their contributions deepen the connections between the composers’ work and the prairie environment that inspired it.
This event not only highlights the artistic achievements of the participating Veterans, but also underscores the power of collaboration across artistic disciplines. Water(color) for the Soul invites audiences to listen, to see, and to experience the prairie anew, through the eyes and voices of those who have shaped these works.
We hope to see you there!
