Please join Joanna Pinsky in the Kinzie Corridor on Saturday, November 8 at 11:00 am to view three thought-provoking and visually-exciting exhibitions.
Beginning at Corbett Vs. Dempsey, we’ll delve into ceramic sculptures composed of unexpected disparate shapes and wild colors by Magalie Guérin. Now residing in Marfa, Texas, the Canadian artist has exhibited her paintings in New York, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, and Berlin. At the same gallery, we’ll discuss "Daily Forecasts: July 19–October 14, 2020" by Sadie Benning, a multimedia artist who is internationally recognized for her work in video, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and sound.
Next, we’ll visit Richard Gray Gallery’s immense warehouse space to see a major exhibition by Theaster Gates, one of Chicago’s most important artists, renowned for his interdisciplinary blend of ceramic sculptures, mixed media wall pieces, installations, and social practice. In "Oh, You’ve Got to Come Back to the City," Gates brings together a new series of tar paintings, sculpture, and installation to form an allegory of the city in decay and the potential contained within its ruins. The exhibit runs concurrently with his show at the Smart Museum, which we will explore in our upcoming Winter Series.
