Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present WiHuBa, a trio comprised of Edward Wilkerson, Jr., Jim Baker, and Steve Hunt, in a special late-afternoon trio concert.

WiHuBa brings together three venerable figures in Chicago's experimental music scene.  An important leader in the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians and a member of the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble from its inception in 1976, saxophonist and clarinetist Edward Wilkerson, Jr., led two of the great bands of the 1980s and '90s, 8 Bold Souls and Shadow Vignettes.  Pianist and synthesizer player Jim Baker is utterly integral to Chicago free music, having participated in every imaginable kind of musical setting, from the trio Caffeine and the Birdhouse quartet with Fred Anderson – Baker was house pianist for jam sessions at Anderson's Velvet Lounge – to bands like Mars Williams' Witches and Devils and the quartet Extraordinary Popular Delusions.  Two of those bands, Caffeine and Extraordinary Popular Delusions, feature the drummer Steve Hunt, known to many improvised music followers as the kitman in Hal Russell's NRG Ensemble, with whom he toured the world in the 1990s, recording ECM classics The Finnish/Swiss Tour and The Hal Russell Story.  WiHuBa's first CD, Live at the Owl, was released in 2020, and it showed how together these three storied musicians invent something fresh but steeped in decades of experience.

Magalie Guérin: hard green and Margot Bergman: Grover's Corners will be on view through August 6, 2022. Corbett vs. Dempsey is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm.  Appointments via Tock are encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. Face coverings are required for all gallery guests.
