Perspective Gallery is proud to welcome Jeff Phillips to our lecture series, Perspectives on Photography.  Jeff writes, "By definition, AI is not photography. Yet, the images it produces can deceive even the most discerning eye, blurring the boundaries between AI-created content and traditional light- and lens-based photographs.

"For photographic artists and practitioners, this may conjure fears of displacement, uncertainty about livelihoods, artistic integrity, and the authenticity that underpins our work – and rightfully so.  We will consider each of these areas of concern, while also exploring AI's potential to empower visual artists with new tools that can streamline workflows and invigorate creativity.

"A live demonstration will use verbal prompts from the audience to generate images in real time, revealing AI's surprising strengths and (often hilarious) weaknesses"

Jeff Phillips is Board President for Filter Photo, and since 2009 has helped produce the week-long Filter Photo Festival. He is also the creator of the vernacular photography exhibition, Lost and Found: The Search for Harry and Edna

Jeff has lectured at Columbia College Chicago, School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), and other leading arts education institutions. He holds an M.A. in Photography and Integrated Media and a B.A. in Applied Technology from DePaul University in Chicago.
