Poetry Foundation

Poetry is a place in Chicago.

The Poetry Foundation, an independent literary organization and publisher of Poetry magazine, presents engaging, multifaceted exhibitions that bring together visual arts and the written word.

The Poetry Foundation Gallery exhibits work that is poetry, including posters, broadsides, text– or book–based works, correspondence, and personal effects, as well as works of visual poetry or art by emerging and established poets.

Inhabit poetry through archival exhibitions that locate poets in the visual and tactile material of their time. Exhibitions rotate seasonally three times a year. Check poetryfoundation.org for updates.

Free and open to all.

1/26/2021 – An update in response to COVID-19 (coronavirus)

The Poetry Foundation building in downtown Chicago remains closed to the public, as the Foundation continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities, staff, and patrons. In lieu of in-person events, free online programs and resources, including writing workshops, book clubs, and teaching guides, are available.

Those interested in digital programs such as poetry readings and book clubs are encouraged to visit the Events page and to subscribe to the Events Newsletter for the most up-to-date information.

For those seeking inspiration, please check out our special collections like Poetry and Racial Justice and Equality and Poems of Anxiety and Uncertainty, and resources for educators and parents teaching at home.

Please continue to check our website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for ongoing updates and ways to engage with poetry.
