Spector is a prominent figure in the world of modern conceptual art with a body of work spanning several decades and mediums, including drawings, prints, art criticism and (perhaps most notably) visual art and sculpture. But nearly every piece has one thing in common: they’re made from printed material.&nbsp;These works range in scale and style: structures built brick by brick from novels and encyclopedias, individual books strategically torn to reveal composite images along the edges of pages, collages using cut-outs of dust jackets. Spector has dreamed up endless possibilities for the humble page. They were able to open markets a few summer weekends in Michigan as well as host three weekends of Holiday Pop-Ups downtown in Chicago on Michigan Ave. this past December. The holiday markets were was so successful they will be offering those again at the end of this year around the holidays.&nbsp;No matter where they are taking place, in 2022 once again the market will offer "continuous live entertainment, food, booze &amp; BIG FUN," says Schwartz.&nbsp;2022's schedule is listed below. The visiting residency program returns in 2022, after a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to welcome three artists from Nigeria, Ghana, and Latvia, and one from Minneapolis, in addition to eight artists from the Chicago area.For a decade, the Residency program—with a particular focus on ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Native American) artists—has provided valuable studio spaces, art classes, and supportive resources, while connecting the residents to the city’s artists, curators, art institutions, and cultural communities. Drawing inspiration from the significance of the great kilns of Stoke-on-Trent, Gates's Pavilion will pay homage to British craft and manufacturing traditions. While the structure of the Pavilion will predominantly be made of wood, the Pavilion’s design alludes to the performative and meditative qualities of a small chapel. An operating bell, originating from the demolished St. Laurence Church on Chicago’s South Side, will be placed next to the entrance of the Pavilion and will be used to call, signal and announce performances and activations. The exhibition will launch in June 2022 and run through October of 2023. Now in its sixth edition, Sculpture Milwaukee is a non-profit producing annual exhibitions of contemporary sculpture with a dedicated focus on public art practices. Several new works are introduced as part of each year's exhibition, while some legacy works remain on view.The exhibition, entitled Nature Doesn’t Know About Us, will include “13 works by 13 artists who combine skeptical clarity and at times humor-tinged desire to locate the intersection of spiritual and physical presence in our daily life,” according to Rondinone.The fifth edition of Sculpture Milwaukee is currently on view throughout the city and has been curated by Theaster Gates and Michelle Grabner. Sculpture Milwaukee Announces Appointment of Ugo Rondinone As Guest Curator for 6th Edition

<html><head></head><body><figure class="image"><img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/v1721419010/nlpfwwfveyhzrxarv9ch.jpg"></figure>Via Ian Bricke – VP, Independent Film at NetflixNetflix's VP, Independent Film, Ian Bricke, announced last week that Chicago artist Hebru Brantley is one of three debut filmmakers to be part of Netflix's Emerging Filmmaker Initiative (EFI), an annual program created to cultivate and accelerate the careers of the next wave of marquee filmmakers working in high-demand genres like sci-fi, action, horror and thriller.&nbsp;"In 2017, <a href="https://about.netflix.com/en/news/academy-award-winner-spike-lee-forms-creative-partnership-with-netflix">Spike Lee</a> introduced us to director Stefon Bristol and his standout short film, See You Yesterday— an exciting genre-bending proof of concept that we ultimately developed into a Netflix feature film...Stefon’s short opened a lot of doors, but for many up-and-coming filmmakers, it takes years just to get that first shot. We want to change that," said Bricke.&nbsp;EFI is intended to be an annual opportunity for the streaming giant to give three breakout filmmakers a change to develop, fund, produce and distribute ambitious genre short films. Through the initiative, these filmmakers will gain priceless access to the film studio ecosystem early in their careers and receive hands-on experience in development, casting, production, scoring, editing and more. Netflix says it will also pair each filmmaker with an experienced director mentor. Directors Ron Howard (The Da Vinci Code, Apollo 13) and Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black, The Addams Family) offered invaluable guidance to this year’s filmmakers.&nbsp;EFI’s first three films will be released globally on Netflix on February 17.&nbsp;Hebru Brantley's film, Erax, takes place during a sleepover. Auntie Opal and her niece Nina accidentally release the mythical and dangerous Erax creatures that must be returned to the storybook from which they escaped.&nbsp;Brantley is a multi-disciplinary visual artist from the South Side of Chicago whose work explores a contemporary and distinct narrative that challenges the traditional view of the hero or protagonist. Brantley has exhibited around the world and been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Forbes, CNN (and Chicago Gallery News). Brantley has collaborated with brands such as Nike, Hublot and Adidas, among many others, and collectors of his work include top athletes, celebrities, and filmmakers. Brantley now resides in Los Angeles where he is expanding into content creation with the adaptation of his flagship character FLYBOY through his media company, Angry Hero.
