The Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago in collaboration with Andersen, a monthly publication on literature and illustration for children, presents a seminar dedicated to contemporary Italian literature for children and its role in school education.

How to evaluate the quality of a novel or an illustrated book for children? What role does bibliodiversity have in education? What texts to propose in class, for autonomous or shared reading time? We will analyze some illustrated books, collections of poetry, comics and fiction for different age groups, including titles available at the library of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago: a selection designed as a starting point to explore contemporary Italian literature for children and youth, with particular attention to the books that accompany us in the exploration of the world and nature and in training the sense of sight. In the final part of the seminar we will present in more detail the author Susanna Mattiangeli, in preparation for the workshop Uno come Antonio, that will take place at the Institute on March 17th.

A bibliography and many ideas on techniques for sharing books will be provided.
