Join us Thursday, April 16th at 1pm in the Belushi Auditorium for a special lecture by visiting artist JESSICA CALDERWOOD! Trained as a metalsmith and enamelist, Jessica Calderwood’s art objects make statements about contemporary life using craft-based media. Since receiving her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from Arizona State University, her work has been exhibited extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally. She has participated in artist residencies with the John Michael Kohler Arts/Industry Program, Ferro Corporation, Mesa Arts Center, and Pittsburgh Glass Center. Her work has also been published in Metalsmith Magazine, American Craft, and the Art of Enameling, amongst others. Work from her various series can be found in numerous collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Racine Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Yale University Art Gallery, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. She is currently a Professor of Art at Ball State University. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Perspective Gallery is proud to welcome Kenn Cook Jr. to our lecture series “Perspectives on Photography.” Cook will discuss “#MyWestSideStory, Images from Black America’” on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 4 PM at the Gallery.Cook is a Chicago-based photographer and culture keeper whose work centers on storytelling, memory, and the preservation of Black cultural life. Rooted in his upbringing on the Westside of Chicago, his practice moves between documentation and intimacy, using photography to reflect on community, place, and belonging.His work has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, and the Chicago Sun-Times. He has also worked with the Magnum Foundation. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Photography. He is a 2024 LensCulture Emerging Talent Award winner, was named the 2025 Artist-in-Residence at the Legler Regional Library, and is currently an Artist-in-Residence in the Nichols Tower program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Michigan Ave.Chicago, IL&nbsp; Carla Williams (American, b. 1965) is a photographer and curator known for her explorations of identity, race, gender, and representation. In her early work in the 1980s, she used a large-format camera to explore her own image, in work that reflected the lack of visibility of Black women in photographic history. Williams is the co-author of&nbsp;The Black Female Body: A Photographic History&nbsp;(2002) with Deborah Willis. She served as a curator of photography at the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and was a professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
