Heritage Museum of Asian Art is the only museum in the Midwest exclusively dedicated to Asian art. Located in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood, the museum preserves and promotes the diverse traditions of Asian art through exhibitions, collections, and public programs that connect historical works with contemporary artists, communities, and cultural practices.

With a collection spanning from 4000 BCE through the nineteenth century, the museum is especially known for its Chinese and Japanese classical art. Through rotating exhibitions, artist talks, performances, workshops, and educational programs, HMAA creates opportunities for visitors to encounter Asian art as a living and evolving tradition.

HMAA is committed to preserving the stories and legacies of community artists, particularly those whose contributions to Chicago’s cultural life have been overlooked. Through oral histories, archival preservation, research, and exhibitions, the museum works with artists, families, and community partners to make these histories accessible to future generations.
