Zolla/Lieberman Gallery is pleased to present&nbsp;Mont Blanc on Wood, an exhibition of new pen-and-ink drawings on jelutong panels by acclaimed American sculptor and printmaker John Buck. Best known for his carved wood sculptures and monumental woodblock prints, Buck has spent more than five decades exploring the intersections of history, popular culture, environmental stewardship, and contemporary life.&nbsp;Mont Blanc on Wood&nbsp;marks a significant evolution in Buck's practice. Departing from the densely layered imagery of his sculptures and prints, these intimate drawings focus on singular landscapes inspired by the American West. Mountains, forests, waterfalls, and geological formations emerge through finely rendered pen work that transform familiar places into surreal environments. Rather than constructing expansive symbolic narratives, Buck distills each composition into a focused meditation on the enduring beauty of the natural world.&nbsp;Buck's characteristic blend of observation, humor, and allegory are present throughout the exhibition. The River North Design District Fall Gallery Walk is back, and it's our biggest year yet! Seventeen design showrooms and galleries will come alive with art from some of the brightest talents on the scene, paired with vignettes from Chicago's top designers. The result? Insta-worthy feasts for the eye to inspire anyone who wants to make their home a beautiful haven.(Chicago, May 18, 2026) The River North Design District proudly announces this year's annual River North Design District Fall Gallery Walk on September 11. The walk is comprised of 17 locations with special events throughout River North, featuring 31 artists and 16 designer vignettes. This year, the Gallery Walk's philanthropic partner is Tunnel to Towers, which will receive a portion of the proceeds.The walk is free and open to the public except for the afterparty. Showrooms will have extended hours on September 11, from 5–8 p.m., and will offer food and libations (details below). Created in response to the events and aftermath of 9/11, the painting stands as a profound meditation on loss, courage, mourning, and the endurance of the human spirit. Through its sweeping scale and emotional force, the work invites viewers into a space of remembrance and reflection while honoring the lives forever changed by that day.Bruno Surdo is a celebrated Chicago artist known for his large-scale narrative figurative paintings and his sustained commitment to the human condition as a subject of contemporary art. Represented by&nbsp;Gallery VICTOR, Surdo has exhibited widely over several decades, and&nbsp;Tragedy, Memory and Honor&nbsp;has previously been shown in Chicago, including at the&nbsp;Daley Center&nbsp;in 2002 and 2003, as well as in galleries across the country. In recognition of the painting, Surdo received a letter of appreciation from former Mayor&nbsp;Richard M. Daley.This exhibition will extend beyond the painting itself.
