The Art Center Highland Park is proud to announce its forthcoming exhibition KLAUBA, a survey of the works of painter and tattoo artist George Klauba. This show will be on view at The Art Center from March 6 to April 4, 2026.Curated by gallerist Teresa Hofheimer, this large exhibition of paintings and sculpture spans over two decades, referencing George Klauba’s life works as a Navy officer, a tattoo artist, and eventually a celebrated painter and fine artist.Works by George Klauba are in public and private collections across the U.S., including the New Bedford Whaling Museum, MA; the Rockford Art Museum, Rockford, IL, and the VermillionCounty War Museum in Danville, IL. Three Moby-Dick paintings have been chosen for the book covers of Melville’s novel.KLAUBA will open with a free, public reception at The Art Center from 5:30 to 8:00 pm on March 6, with all works on display for sale through the exhibition’s run.

George Klauba

Oliva Gallery marks its ten-year anniversary with&nbsp;MMM…., a group exhibition presented in conjunction with International Women’s Day. The exhibition opens March 6, 2026, and features work by Melanie P. Brown, Mia Capodilupo, and Michelle Stone. The title references both the shared first initials of the participating artists and the visual and sensory richness of their work.Together, the exhibition brings painting, sculpture, installation, and performance-informed practices into dialogue, highlighting distinct yet complementary approaches to material, gesture, space, and perception.Melanie P. Brown presents work rooted in her long-standing practice of painting in direct response to sound and music. Since 2020, Brown’s process has centered on live and recorded sound as a catalyst for color, gesture, and mark-making. Preparing extensive palettes and integrating pastel and charcoal, she translates rhythm, texture, and spatial perception into layered compositions. Brown frequently performs live painting in collaboration with musicians, treating the act of painting as a time-based, multisensory event. The resulting canvases function as residual records of these four-dimensional collaborations. Brown lives and works in Chicago and holds a BA from Knox College and an MFA in Painting from American University.Mia Capodilupo contributes sculptural and installation-based work informed by physical contact, spatial experience, and material tension. A sculptor and installation artist originally from Boston, Capodilupo has exhibited widely in museums, galleries, and alternative spaces across the United States. Her practice includes large-scale public and semi-permanent installations commissioned by the cities of Chicago, Atlanta, Bellevue, Washington, and the Indianapolis Art Center, as well as a permanent work at the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, Illinois. Capodilupo holds an MFA in Sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute and serves as Gallery Director at Lillstreet Art Center. She is also the founder and director of Ignition Project Space in Chicago.Michelle Stone presents constructed, impasto acrylic sculptures alongside related paintings and drawings. Her work occupies a space between figuration and abstraction, often expanding into wall-based, floor-based, and immersive installations. Stone’s practice investigates memory, narrative, and the human condition through layered surfaces, fragmented forms, and evolving structures. Her paintings and sculptures emphasize transformation, erosion, and psychological space, with imagery emerging through accumulated gestures and textures. Stone is affiliated with Ceres Gallery in New York City and Dialogue Chicago and maintains a studio with Greenleaf Artists. She lives and works between Chicago and New York. 65GRAND is pleased to present&nbsp;The Division Street Riots,&nbsp;a new exhibition by Chicago-based artist Carlos Rolón. The exhibition features new graphite and charcoal drawings, works on aluminum, a DIY bicycle sculpture with audio, and a hand-embroidered textile inspired by the 1966 Division Street uprising in Humboldt Park and West Town.On June 12, 1966, one day after Chicago’s first Puerto Rican Day Parade, police shot 20-year-old Arcelis Cruz near Damen and Division. The incident ignited three days of protest, marking the first major U.S. riot attributed to Puerto Ricans. The unrest exposed systemic police brutality, displacement through urban renewal, substandard housing, and educational inequities. It became a turning point in Puerto Rican civic life in Chicago, catalyzing grassroots political organizing and the transformation with the likes of the Young Lords into a civil rights movement.Nearly sixty years later, Rolón revisits this history through a restrained, material language that foregrounds memory, dignity, and collective witness. Drawing from archival photographs and community narratives, the works consider how histories of migration, protest, and belonging continue to shape American cities. At a time of renewed national debate around immigration, civil rights, and ICE enforcement, the exhibition reflects on how communities mobilize in the face of injustice and how solidarity becomes a form of cultural survival.The creation of this body of work was generously supported by a grant from the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE). The artist also acknowledges the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center for providing studio space during the development of the project. Founded in 1971 in the wake of the uprising, the Center remains a vital institution for Puerto Rican arts and culture in Chicago, continuing a legacy of education, preservation, and empowerment. Presenting this exhibition at 65GRAND, which is part of the cultural fabric of Humboldt Park and where the artist lives, brings the work into direct dialogue with the community from which its history emerges.Rolón (b. 1970) is known for a multidisciplinary practice spanning painting, sculpture, installation, and social engagement. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at major institutions including the New Orleans Museum of Art, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte de Ponce, Dallas Contemporary, and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, among others. In 2007, he represented Ukraine at the 52nd Venice Biennale and is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation Award for Painting and Sculpture. From a 6th-century gilt bronze Buddhist sculpture to white porcelain and contemporary paintings of the late 20th century, the works of art in this exhibition demonstrate the artistic legacy produced on the Korean peninsula over millennia. Among the 140 artworks on view, 22 are officially recognized as National Treasures or Treasures by the Korean government.

And from modeling photographs to memorabilia from her tenure as cultural coordinator at Loyola Marymount University. The exhibition also celebrates her award-winning documentary films on American art, produced for Handel Film Corporation, as well as her deeply personal film Generations: A Documentary of Ukrainians in Chicago. Perhaps most poignant are the final paintings she made during her five-year contention with Alzheimer's disease. These works are quiet, powerful testaments to an enduring creative spirit.L.A. Woman also showcases Antonovych's personal art collection, reflecting the breadth of her artistic relationships and influences. His new project looks at cities across the US and his long term commitment to black and white large format work. Thall served on the faculty at Columbia College Chicago from 1976 to 2017 and chaired the Photography Department from 1999 to 2011. His work and scholarship have played a crucial role in the museum’s history and the broader educational landscape. Artist's Talk with juror Ann M. Jastrab

Chicago-based artist Luna Prysiazhniuk presents&nbsp;Exposed, a solo exhibition of oil paintings focused on the structural presence of the urban landscape. In this body of work, Chicago bridges, elevated tracks, and industrial corridors become both subject and framework. The paintings explore weight, steel, surface, and the tension within built form. Structure is not treated as background — it becomes active, physical, and emotionally charged. Through layered brushwork and dense material surfaces, architecture shifts from something fixed and solid into something moving and alive. Steel exposed to time, weather, and light becomes a metaphor for endurance and transformation.

Won Kim: Everything I Know

The Evanston Art Center (EAC) is excited to welcome the public to our upcoming exhibition,&nbsp;La Jaula De Oro | Azul Alberto Nogueron. The exhibition will be on display from&nbsp;March 14&nbsp;–&nbsp;April 19, 2026, with an opening reception on&nbsp;Sunday, March 29, and will be free and open to the public. Inspired by Los Tigres Del Norte song and curated by Azul Alberto Nogueron,&nbsp;La Jaula De Oro&nbsp;asks artists to respond to the illusion of the American Dream from the perspective of marginalized artists, using personal narratives about immigration, assimilation, and acceptance of identity. Artists Taly Inkz, Lily Guillen, and Gnat Rosa Madrid respond to the question: “What does it mean to be disillusioned?” La Jaula De Oro&nbsp;is the first of three exhibitions for our COMPASS Curator Residency, which provides an emerging curator with the opportunity to curate three shows in the Evanston Art Center’s Lobby Gallery space. The EAC’s Lobby Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting emerging and underrepresented artists and curators and responds to current and social events. EAC’s 2026 COMPASS Resident Azul Alberto Nogueron is a queer non-binary multidisciplinary artist from Chicago, IL, whose practice reflects on their personal beliefs and experiences as a trans person to create stories of acceptance, fear, and curiosity. La Jaula De Oro&nbsp;will be exhibited in the Lobby Gallery of the Art Center. The opening reception is free and open to the public. This exhibition is partially funded by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the EAC’s general membership.
