Audrey will discuss her visual work and share a reading from her forthcoming novel The Other Husband, the highly anticipated sequel to The Time Traveler's Wife. Audrey has been at work on The Other Husband since 2012. The novel follows Alba, the time-traveling daughter of Henry and Clare, as she navigates a world of music, art, and mayhem. The book is slated for release in the fall of 2026. Don't miss this opportunity to hear directly from Audrey as she bridges her art and writing in an intimate, celebratory setting. "Fosberg appropriates objects and images, and then creatively alters them to suit her artistic conceit. The stylized paintings are allegories of spiritual quests and the peculiar sculptures are transformed into talismans. Art has done this work for centuries, picturing the ineffable and serving as supernatural intermediaries in our relationship with the unknown. Fosberg imagines places and things of mystery and awe, through which one gets to a higher state of consciousness, with nature often as the gateway, as she puts it. Oscar Joyo&nbsp;<a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.instagram.com/oscar_joyo/" target="_blank">@oscar_joyo</a>&nbsp;decided to paint a mural of tobacco leaves, Malawi’s primary export, as a way of grounding his largest painting to date in his own roots.This exhibition takes his exploration of identity further, featuring larger canvases, rich textures, and vivid, cosmic-inspired color schemes. Tobacco plants—a major Malawian export used in healing and sacred rituals—glow with bioluminescence, while thermal and infrared skin tones give his subjects a futuristic edge, turning Blackness into a symbol of evolution, revolution, and resilience.&nbsp;Recent political pressures on immigrants have led Joyo to revisit themes of migration, aiming to portray immigration as a source of strength rather than fear. His work reflects the complex emotions of anger, sadness, and longing for his homeland while finding connections between Malawi and Chicago. As a Black immigrant in a city he loves, he continues to evolve and grow. When he finally returns to Malawi, he will not leave as he came.

Gut Symmetry, an exhibition of paintings and prints by Chicago artist Catherine Sollman, opens at OS Projects on August 9, 2025. The exhibition continues through October 11, 2025. OS Projects will host a reception for the artist from 1 – 3 pm on Saturday, August 9. Catherine Sollman uses basic shapes to create abstract forms that refer to the human body or environment, both natural and built. Her work is characterized by precision as well as unconventional color combinations that she often pushes toward garishness in pursuit of a particular vibrational quality. Gut Symmetry comprises two bodies of work: small gouache paintings and monotypes, which are one-of-a-kind prints. The paintings are predicated on a limited set of rules and tools—straightedge, compass, pencil and gouache—and have evolved to occupy an important place in Sollman’s practice. They are an investigation of form, color and relationships as well as an attempt to trigger pulsations between color and shape. Sollman describes them as “a quest for sensation.” While the gouache paintings are created directly and intuitively, the monotypes incorporate an element of chance using ghost prints, migrating motifs and the reuse and reconfiguration of the printed surface or matrix. Their imagery hints at bodily structures, the exchange of matter and the tension between exuberant impulse and the need to withhold. They reflect Sollman’s ongoing interest in exploring print’s capacity to accommodate abstraction, chance, mood and iteration while allowing for formality and humor. Both the gouache paintings and monotype prints in Gut Symmetry function as loci of experimentation for the artist. They are also a meditation on antiquated notions of femininity, impropriety, rightness and order. Within each, Sollman strives to facilitate a type of presence—a small escape, a work that soothes and surprises, a portal to somewhere else. About the Artist Born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, Catherine Sollman is a printmaker and teaching artist whose practice consists of small-scale abstract works on paper that emphasize geometry and color play. She earned her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and continued her studies with Karen Kunc, Terry James Conrad, Katie Baldwin and other notable printmakers. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across the U.S. including the Highpoint Center for Printmaking (Minneapolis, MN), Mixografia (Los Angeles, CA), Print Austin (Austin, TX) and Hyde Park Art Center (Chicago, IL). She was a 2024 Artist-in-Residence at Weir Farm National Historic Park (Wilton, CT) and will be a 2026 Artist-in-Residence at Peninsula School of Art (Fish Creek, WI). Main / Office Galleries Lora Fosberg is an American artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture. She received her BFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1992. Lora Fosberg’s work speaks to the power of form, the capacity of iconography to create a universal language that communicates the banalities and complexities of the human experience. Fosberg’s process is deeply anthropological, bound up in the intricacies and intimacies of human life—memories, emotions, our relationships with others and with nature. Disarming her viewers through familiar imagery and language in her work, often rendered in an accessible, animated manner, with a touch of cheeky humor, Fosberg affords them the space to regress to a particular memory, a moment of understanding, a conflict, an absence, a connection to another person, or to nature.​ Her work has been featured in venues across the Midwest and West Coast including the South Bend Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Hyde Park Art Center and international venues in Copenhagen and London. Fosberg’s work is represented in the permanent collections of the Illinois State Museum, Eaton Corporation, and Kirkland &amp; Ellis, as well as numerous private collections. She lives and works in Michigan City, Indiana.

She is the author of&nbsp;The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants&nbsp;and&nbsp;Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses.&nbsp;She lives in Syracuse, New York, where she is a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Environmental Biology, and the founder and director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment. The Serviceberry As Indigenous scientist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer harvests serviceberries alongside the birds, she considers the ethic of reciprocity that lies at the heart of the gift economy. How, she asks, can we learn from Indigenous wisdom and the plant world to reimagine what we value most?&nbsp;Our economy is rooted in scarcity, competition, and the hoarding of resources, and we have surrendered our values to a system that actively harms what we love. Meanwhile, the serviceberry’s relationship with the natural world is an embodiment of reciprocity, interconnectedness, and gratitude. The tree distributes its wealth—its abundance of sweet, juicy berries—to meet the needs of its natural community. And this distribution insures its own survival.&nbsp;&nbsp;As Kimmerer explains, “Serviceberries show us another model, one based upon reciprocity, where wealth comes from the quality of your relationships, not from the illusion of self-sufficiency.” Braiding Sweetgrass As a botanist, Robin Wall Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In&nbsp;Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings these two lenses of knowledge together to take us on “a journey that is every bit as mythic as it is scientific, as sacred as it is historical, as clever as it is wise” (Elizabeth Gilbert).&nbsp;Drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, a mother, and a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings—asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass—offer us gifts and lessons, even if we’ve forgotten how to hear their voices.&nbsp;&nbsp;In a rich braid of reflections that range from the creation of Turtle Island to the forces that threaten its flourishing today, she circles toward a central argument: that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. Riccardo Muti, the Orchestra’s&nbsp;distinguished 10th music director from 2010 until 2023,&nbsp;became Music Director Emeritus for Life at the beginning of the&nbsp;2023/24 Season. Daniil Trifonov is the CSO Artist-in-Residence for the 2024/25 Season. The CSO commands a vast repertoire, from baroque through contemporary music. Its renowned musicians perform more than 150 concerts annually, in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center in downtown Chicago and each summer at the Ravinia Festival in suburban Highland Park. CSO Chamber Music: Tiffany: Beyond the Shade

<a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.lydia-cheshewalla.com/" target="_blank">Lydia Cheshewalla</a>&nbsp;is an Osage ephemeral artist from Oklahoma, living and working in motion throughout the Great Plains ecoregion. Through the creation of site-specific land art and ephemeral installations grounded in Indigenous land stewardship practices and kinship pedagogies, Lydia engages in multivocal conversations about place and relationship.Before Dreams Are The Last Place We Find You&nbsp;will open at Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods on Sunday, September 7th. Before Dreams Are The Last Place We Find You

Paul Mitchell is an art professor and digital artist living in Illinois. This selection is from a body of work reflecting his interest in climate change, beginning in 2006, with the publication of&nbsp;An Inconvenient Truth&nbsp;by Al Gore. This led to the realization that climate change was connected to global warming, ocean acidification, wildlife extinction, and massive migration of life on the planet. Most recently, his focus has been on mitigation of the problems and suffering caused by climate change. Aesthetics of Power, an exhibition juried by artist Mahwish Chishty, looks closely at how aesthetics can be used to express layered, quietly disruptive ideas. This exhibition features work that surprises, that reveals itself slowly, or that occupies the fragile space where beauty unsettles rather than soothes. Artists in this exhibition reflect on how aesthetic interpretations carry the weight of history, how beauty might obscure or reveal power, and how what is finely wrought can also bear witness. "Moving On” is a compilation of abstract paintings influenced by the experience of the pandemic, from the days before its onset, to the lasting effects on present day. Eleven bright and complex canvases invite the viewer to connect with the struggle between always changing complexities and mobile, but always present, soothing space.

Art + Design Faculty Exhibition: Redux&nbsp;is the first faculty exhibition at the Tarble in five years. The exhibition brings together recent and newly created works by current and emeritus studio art faculty from Eastern Illinois University's Department of Art + Design. The term redux, meaning brought back or revived, was chosen to emphasize the long-awaited return of the faculty show to the Tarble’s exhibition cycle. Redux will feature a wide variety of artwork from painting, sculpture, and ceramics to digital media, installation, printmaking, and more.
