Inspired by nature, his compositions evoke light, movement, and reflection.Jenny Nelson’s paintings are vibrant, intuitive abstractions built through layers of color and gestural marks. Rooted in drawing and observation, her compositions balance spontaneity with structure, creating a sense of depth, movement, and harmony.&nbsp;Maura Segal’s abstract works conjure a delicate simplicity. David R. Harper: Good Morning Sweetheart&nbsp;brings together sculpture, textiles, ceramics, stained glass, and found imagery to explore how memory takes shape in objects. Couches, perfume bottles, motel soaps, detergents, birds, flowers, fragments of figurative sculpture, and everyday household items appear throughout the exhibition. Familiar at first glance, these things are carefully handmade, altered, and recombined—becoming intimate, uncanny, and quietly charged.The exhibition unfolds across two connected spaces. In the MMoCA Icon, Harper creates a suspended environment centered on a lightweight mid-century couch upholstered in handwoven tones of pink, sherbet, melon, and honey. Embedded with domestic cleaning products, the couch becomes a floating “memory bank”—a meditation on home, care, and repose—surrounded by a mobile featuring a summer patio umbrella and garlands of cast-ceramic Froot Loops.In the State Street Gallery, the exhibition pivots around&nbsp;She Drank the Water That Was Meant for the Orchids&nbsp;(2019), a recent addition to MMoCA’s collection. New large-scale embroideries, stuffed horses with embedded objects, shelves of ceramic vases covered in cast cicadas, and ceramic flower bouquets extend the exhibition’s domestic and emotional terrain.Across both spaces, memory functions as a material. Objects act as containers of experience—holding care, pleasure, grief, desire, and loss. Rather than telling a single story, Harper creates environments where meaning emerges through movement and attention. Looking becomes an active process, shaped by proximity, perspective, and the viewer’s own lived experience.About the ArtistDavid R. Harper (b. Toronto, Canada / Lives and Works in the American Midwest), received his BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Fiber and Material Studies. He currently teaches in the Painting and Drawing department at the Art Institute of Chicago and the New Studio Practice department at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.&nbsp;Harper’s work employs both traditional and non-traditional materials such as embroidery, ceramic, and casting materials such as salt and charcoal in a cross-disciplinary manner to create objects installations that grapple with notions of loss, love, feelings of belonging and how we use objects to inform our notions of self.&nbsp;Harper has been included in group shows at museums in the US and Canada, including MASS MoCA, National Gallery of Canada and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and has participated in numerous solo exhibitions including&nbsp;My Own Personal Ghost&nbsp;(The John Michael Kohler Art Center),&nbsp;Plateau&nbsp;(South Bend Museum of Art)&nbsp;Skin and Bone&nbsp;(Textile Museum of Canada), A solo touring exhibition of Harper’s work titled&nbsp;Entre Le Chien et Le Loup&nbsp;was organized by the University of Toronto in 2013&nbsp;He has participated in several residencies, including the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Residency (2016), Bemis Center for Contemporary Art (2014), and the Kohler Arts Industry (2012/2014)&nbsp;&nbsp;His work can be found in a number of notable collections, including The Museum of Arts and Design (NYC), The John Michael Kohler Art Center, The Museum of Wisconsin Art, The National Gallery of Canada, the Frederick R. 11th Solo Exhibition PARK, Yon-JaePark Yon-jae is a Korean visual designer who has been a professor in the Department of Industrial Design at Joongbu University for 26 years.Under the theme of “Return to Nature,” Park Yon-jae’s exhibition expresses human desire to return to the pure nature. By expressing the dizzy and frustrating material-all-round society with barcodes and the human self with fish, butterflies, and flowers, the desire to return to the purity of the beginning was expressed in illustration.

Centering on the iconic spacecraft that in 1976 transformed Parliament-Funkadelic concerts into interstellar journeys, the exhibition coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Mothership: a visionary creation that, in Clinton’s words, took “the ’hood into outer space.”&nbsp; George Clinton remains one of the most unfailingly eccentric figures in the history of music, renowned for extravagant performances in which stage production and sonic production are used to psychedelically transport his viewers. As ambitious as it was improbable, the&nbsp;Mothership&nbsp;– a silver, pyramid-shaped vessel that landed on-stage with Clinton himself as Dr. Funkenstein on board – captured the imagination of Parliament’s audiences by bringing psychedelic culture into the mainstream at a moment when the space race remained an ongoing cultural obsession.Drawing from an eclectic constellation of references, Clinton's paintings construct dreamlike worlds in which the logic of a non-narrative typology gives way to rhythm and vibration. Across the canvases, void-like forms recalling the silhouette of the&nbsp;Mothership&nbsp;hover at the center of the picture plane. Untethered from ground or horizon, these suspended forms occupy indeterminate fields where space is rendered not as empty expanse but as a living, psychic terrain in which possibility continuously circulates.&nbsp; Across the paintings, Clinton deploys a vivid palette of electric pinks, saturated blues, and radiant yellows that has become synonymous with the visual culture surrounding Parliament-Funkadelic and its Afrofuturist imagination. Suggestive of celestial atmospheres and synthetic light, these colors transform pictorial space into an environment of continual emergence. The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMA) is pleased to announce Home Grown (Vol. III), the third iteration of curator Lauren Iacoponi’s ongoing exhibition series exploring sustainable processes and the relationship between people and plants. On view from July 11 through September 6, 2026, the exhibition transformsUIMA’s galleries into an immersive environment where sculpture, eco-dye textiles, hand papermaking, and botanical installations are integrated directly into a living landscape of plants.Home Grown began in 2022 as a booth installation at the MdW Fair at Mana Contemporary Chicago, and returned in 2025 for a second iteration at Heaven Gallery.&nbsp;For its third installment, UIMA serves as the flagship location, with new and returning artists creating work that responds to eco-friendly materials and processes — from artist-made bioplastic to sculptures grown from living mycelium.&nbsp;Visitors to Home Grown (Vol. III) will encounter work that blurs the line between artwork and ecosystem. Featured artists work in mycology, natural dye, fiber, ceramic, photography, and assemblage, often incorporating organic materials that continue to grow, change, or decompose over the course of the exhibition. Highlights include Erin LaRocque’s reishi mycelium sculptures, Noelani Jones’ participatory sprouting chia-seed textiles, SK Reed’s natural pigment paintings, and Rachel Meyers Heffernan’s homestead weavings made with her sheep’s wool.A central feature of Home Grown (Vol. III) is its roving counterpart, Unpacked Mobile Gallery, a 16-foot truck outfitted as a traveling exhibition space. Throughout the first week of the exhibition (Saturday, July 11 - Saturday, July 18) , Unpacked will bring nature-centered artwork and participatory workshops directly into public parks, cultural institutions, and community gardens across Chicago, including Comfort Station (Logan Square), Plant Chicago (Back of the Yards), Met West Community Garden (West Town), The Weaving Mill Dye Garden and Seed Library (Humboldt Park), Sand Ridge Nature Center (Cook County Nature Preserve), the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UkrainianVillage), and additional Chicago public parks. The Evanston Art Center (EAC) is excited to welcome the public to our upcoming exhibition,&nbsp;Ellen Holtzblatt and Paula Menchen | Place and Passing.&nbsp;The exhibition will be on display from&nbsp;August 8 - September 6, 2026 with an opening reception on Sunday, August 9, 1-4pm that will be free and open to the public.Place and Passing&nbsp;is a two-person exhibition that approaches landscape as shifting fields of memory, sensation, and emotion. The River North Design District Fall Gallery Walk is back, and it's our biggest year yet! Seventeen design showrooms and galleries will come alive with art from some of the brightest talents on the scene, paired with vignettes from Chicago's top designers. The result? River North Design District 10th Annual Fall Gallery Walk

The much-loved triangle of public land known as Wicker Park, the neighborhood’s namesake, will be the site of the second annual Wicker Park Fine Art Fair on Saturday, September 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.The purpose behind this art fair is to create a space for artists and the public to interact. “There are so many people making really good art in Chicago, but there is a chasm between the physical places they can show their work,” says Mariottini. “I want the Wicker Park Fine Art Fair to be a place between a white-box gallery and a street festival, where the focus is truly on the quality of the art.” Visitors can expect a low-key atmosphere with no performance stages, beer tents, or parades just artists with their art. ﻿<img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/v1782240033/onuvo7e4wmrygz257zpu.jpg">

John Wangendo | Stories from Africa&nbsp;will be exhibited in the Second Floor Gallery of the Art Center.The opening reception is free and open to the public. This summer, the&nbsp;Driehaus Museum&nbsp;presents&nbsp;Ink &amp; Outrage: 18th&nbsp;Century Satirical Prints in London &amp; Dublin,&nbsp;an exhibition that explores the wit and graphic brilliance displayed by English graphic satirical artists such as James Gillray (1765-1815) and Thomas Rowlandson (1757-1827) to lampoon civics, society, and culture in Georgian London. The exhibition places original prints in dialogue with plagiarized works by artists in Ireland, evoking conversations about piracy, originality, and reproduction that have become more relevant than ever today. Organized by guest curators&nbsp;Silvia Beltrametti&nbsp;and&nbsp;William Laffan&nbsp;and following its debut at the Irish Architectural Archive in Dublin in 2025,&nbsp;Ink &amp; Outrage: 18thCentury Satirical Prints in London &amp; Dublin&nbsp;takes place at the Driehaus Museum, 50 E. Erie Street, from&nbsp;May 15 to September 13, 2026.&nbsp;Now ubiquitous in Internet meme culture and modern-day satire, the groundbreaking use of image and text during the Georgian period was a powerful form of storytelling, holding those in power accountable, and fostering bonds between classes and communities.&nbsp;Ink &amp; Outrage: 18th&nbsp;Century Satirical Prints in London &amp; Dublin&nbsp;includes approximately 100 original prints and features loans from The William A. Gordon Library of British Caricature, the collection of the O’Brien family, and the Richard H. Driehaus Art Exhibition Lending Foundation.The exhibition places original prints alongside plagiarized works made in Ireland,&nbsp;where copyright law of images did not apply and business for replicas flourished. These pirated copies provoked historic debates around authorship and plagiarism that set the stage for current conversations around artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and mass reproduction today.In the context of the Driehaus Museum, the exhibition presents Georgian satirical prints as a vital precursor to the art, architecture, and ideas that shaped the United States during the Gilded Age. The works reflect the visual and political culture of an influential period in Britain and Ireland that went on to inform American taste and civic life.&nbsp;Executive Director of the Driehaus Museum&nbsp;Lisa M. The work is a product of a highly intuitive, spontaneous, and "generative" process.Influenced by biological entities, processes, and environments, both real and imagined, with form and composition emerge over&nbsp;the course of layering intuitive mark making and color. The artist is legally blind, having experienced significant vision loss&nbsp;over twenty years ago. Thomas has had to contendl loss of central vision, relying ofn his peripheral vision to do both every-day life tasks and make art. "Interference" in part refers to the artist's condition, called Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON). In addition to loss of central vision, LHON presents with dynamic visual artifacts, simple visual hallucinations and "noise". The artist has had to adapt and work using memory, close-looking, technology, and intuition the work reflects both a process of real-time adaptation and a running internal narrative of nature's complexity, chaos, and beauty. The work is also defined by the effort to see through the interference with the use of contrast, saturated color, line, and repetition.
